AOpen Adds Vacuum Tubes To Motherboard Jumping on an established audio trend, Aopen America has released amotherboard employing vacuum tubes for allegedly higher-quality sound. On the surface, Aopen's AX4B 533 Tube motherboard contains a familiar component mix: the Intel 845E chipset and the ICH-4 south bridge; four USB ports, and an ATA-100 connection. The addition of the vacuum tube, however, gives the board's audio output the "warm" feeling that audio aficionados crave, according to the company. "We were all together late one night, kicking around lots of crazy ideas when I proposed it would be really cool if we could combine the warmth and depth tonal realism, if you will of the sound produced by an audio tube, with one of our state-of the-art motherboards" said Al Peng, product manager at AOpen America Inc.(Continue Reading)
